Goodwill Industries in Lincoln is accredited through CARF (Commission on Accreditation for Rehabilitation Facilities) and maintains an effective Employment Services Program that offers job training and employment programs to people who face barriers to employment. Goodwill’s client population includes people with physical, mental, and emotional disabilities, or dependence on public support. Today Goodwill Industries is unique; of all the agencies in Lincoln, it is the only one that serves the broad spectrum of persons with barriers to employment.

Goodwill’s Job Connection is located downtown in the Goodwill Retail Store. The purpose of Job Connection is to maximize the employability of job seekers in a market that requires some computer knowledge in nearly all jobs. Individuals may receive assistance with resume and cover letter creation and templates are available for use. Staff members are also available to help guide guests through online applications. Classes or tutorials for basic computer skills, typing and data entry are also made available. Many of the tutorials are available in both English and Spanish. 

Lincoln Goodwill provides access to online learning and a virtual skills academy. 

Online Learning:

For almost 20 years, the program has helped millions around the world learn the essential skills they need to live and work in the 21st century. From Microsoft Office and email, to reading, math, and more— offers more than 200 topics, including more than 7,000 lessons, more than 1,000 videos, and more than 50 interactives and games, completely free.

Virtual Learning Academy:

Once on the website, click the REGISTER NOW button. 

Created specifically to meet the needs of job seekers, Skills to Succeed Academy offers 36 bite-sized, interactive modules. Jobseekers will be guided on the entire journey, from choosing the right career and finding a job to achieving success in the workplace.

The training is interactive and features engaging and relatable characters. It focuses on building the skills and confidence to empower jobseekers to take ownership of their job search. Innovative simulations provide a safe environment where learners can practice real-life scenarios, such as job interviews, and instantly see the impact of their decisions.

Retail Organizational Employment Program

This CARF accredited program provides work opportunities to individuals whom meet admission requirements and have sufficient skills to operate independently in a retail setting. The program is intended to help participants gain the skills necessary to obtain competitive employment. Individual Program Plans are developed and reviewed to help the participant work towards achieving the long term goal of competitive employment. Retail Organizational Employment is a non-fee program that is currently fully funded by store revenue with openings and schedules based upon the business needs of our many locations.

Goodwill Works Employment and Soft Skills Training

Goodwill Works Employment and “Soft Skills” training focuses on getting participants “job ready” by improving the skills, abilities and traits that pertain to personality, attitude and behavior.

Problem Solving Skills

Problem solving involves the identification of problems and the formulation and evaluation of alternative solutions by weighing risks and benefits.

Communication Skills

Communication skills include the ability to speak well, listen well, give and understand instructions, and communicate in ways appropriate to the situation and audience.

Personal Qualities & Work Ethic

Personal qualities important to job performance include self-esteem, self-management, time- management, responsibility, and motivation.

Interpersonal & Teamwork Skills

Interpersonal and teamwork skills are those needed to negotiate with others, to participate as a member of a team, and to resolve conflicts maturely.
