Meet Aubry: Goodwill Employment Services Director

Meet Aubry: Goodwill Employment Services Director

By Alana Sesow

Without access to resources and support, finding a job can be hard, especially for those facing different barriers to employment. Goodwill’s Job Connection Center at 1731 O Street exists to help people find meaningful work through skill development and personalized support from staff members like Aubry.

Aubry started working at Goodwill in high school as a retail Team Member. While working at Goodwill in multiple positions, from a Team Member to a Team Lead to an Administrative Support Specialist, Aubry earned her Associate’s and Bachelor’s Degrees.

In her admin role, Aubry had the opportunity to work at Job Connection a few hours per week, where she realized she could “bring it all together: my education, passion for helping others, teaching skills, etc.” She soon began working as an Employment Specialist, and after cross training on all programs and supervising Job Connection staff, Aubry became Goodwill’s Employment Services Director in 2016.

Now, Aubry balances administrative work with directly serving program participants. At Job Connection, she most enjoys meeting and building relationships with new clients, learning their stories while working together to meet their employment needs.

“Job Connection clients come from all walks of life and employment skills/experience,” Aubry said. “When people come to Job Connection, they are often seeking assistance with more than employment, and we are able to help navigate that.”

Aubry sees a variety of clients, including those who are new to the United States, new to Nebraska, or experiencing homelessness. No matter the barrier, Job Connection provides free employment services and one-on-one assistance to help job seekers get back on their feet.

“I have walked alongside people who have felt like they had nothing more to offer and worked with them to develop new skills and improve soft skills,” she said. “I have been able to be a part of many lives for just a small moment. That has been impactful, as some people have felt there was no hope and the world had really beaten them down.”

Through shared experiences with staff, community partners and clients, Job Connection has become a “strong program that truly puts people first and welcomes everyone.” Visit Job Connection at 1731 O St, open Monday – Wednesday 9AM-12PM and 1PM-4PM.  Learn more by following Job Connection on Facebook and visiting our Programs page.
