Meet Anthony: Job Connection Client

When Anthony first moved to Lincoln, he needed help finding a job and getting connected to other vital resources in the community. Because Anthony came to the United States through the lottery Diversity Visa program, he was not connected with any resources upon his arrival.

Then, a friend referred Anthony to Job Connection. They said that Goodwill’s Employment Specialists, Kate and Aubry, were friendly and would help Anthony learn computer skills and apply for jobs. Upon visiting for the first time, Anthony quickly discovered that his friend was right.

“They are kind and welcoming,” Anthony said. “I felt comfortable being there and asking questions. They speak very kindly to me.”

Goodwill’s Employment Specialists take an individualized, empathetic approach with clients, meeting them where they’re at and identifying the next best steps to maximizing employment. During his visits, Anthony received help with job applications, resume creation, interview practice and computer skills training through GCF Global. Anthony also received assistance with navigating community resources, like continuing education, health care and housing assistance.

Thanks to Job Connection, Anthony is now employed and connected to the resources he needs to help support himself and his family. Like other clients, Anthony continues to visit Job Connection to check in with our Employment Specialists from time to time. For Anthony, Job Connection is more than an employment resource; it’s also a place where he feels at home in a city that used to feel very unfamiliar.

“Kate and Aubry are very kind,” he said. “They are like my sisters, my family. I am very comfortable with them. They push me in a good way, give me good advice and help me be better.”
