Lincoln Literacy Offers English Classes for Hexagon Employees
By Alana Sesow
For nearly three years, Lincoln Literacy has partnered with Hexagon Agility – a global company that manufactures carbon fiber fuel tanks – to offer English classes for its local employees. The latest cohort of students are third-shift employees who take 7AM English classes at Hexagon after working all night.
“I can’t say enough about how much I enjoyed teaching this group,” said Mia, Lincoln Literacy employee who teaches the Hexagon class. “They had great attitudes and questions all through the course.”
One student, Max, said that he has improved his public and over-the-phone speaking skills. Before taking the class, Max used to rely on interpreters, but now, he feels confident speaking English on his own.
Another student, Vinny, said he is so happy to be a part of the class. Vinny has noticed his English improving during the last three months and wants opportunities to continue building on these skills through additional classes.
“I can make appointments on the phone [now],” Vinny said. “Before, I talked with an interpreter every time.”

Thanks to the funding from Goodwill’s thrift stores, Lincoln Literacy can continue offering life-changing English and literacy courses for students like Max and Vinny. Why Community Partners?
Because of our amazing donors and customers, Goodwill is able to provide services to thousands of people who face barriers to employment. Goodwill recognizes that services provided by peer agencies prepare people served by Goodwill to better succeed in Goodwill’s employment programs. It is with this understanding that Goodwill provides funding to colleague agencies to help with their own programs that align with Goodwill’s mission of “willing workers employed and community resources maximized.”
