Honesty Pledge

Goodwill is a non-profit agency whose mission is to provide job opportunities and job training. The general public contributes donations for resale and the income received from the retail stores supports our employment programs. As volunteers, you have the responsibility to our donors to uphold the highest level of ethics and integrity by receiving the maximum amount from their donations. Therefore, so there are no misunderstandings, the following list gives examples of situations considered theft:
  • Negotiating prices and/or altering prices for anyone including employees at any time on any item is theft. Anyone who negotiates or alters prices is stealing from Goodwill.
  • Holding items for anyone including employees at any time except for openly understood agency business, is theft. Anyone who holds back or hides items is stealing from Goodwill.
  • Removing items from the store or dumpster for personal use or gifts without proper payment is theft.
  • Anyone who purchases items for resale or uses employee discount for friend's purchases is stealing from Goodwill. Purchases made by those handling merchandise must occur at a location where no hours are worked for that day.
  • Any situation considered abuse of time or cash handling situations, such as clocking in then getting ready for work or frequent cash register drawer short/over is considered stealing.
  • Observing or having knowledge of any of the above situations and not reporting them to supervisors or administration is considered stealing.

Goodwill consults the police when theft is suspected. It has usually been the case that employees talk freely to police, telling them what they have seen and heard in order to protect themselves. To keep yourself above suspicion, don=t do anything that is or looks like the above situations.

I pledge I will not negotiate, alter prices or hold items for anyone and that I will not take items without paying the proper price for them. I further pledge that I will not permit others to steal from Goodwill in any manner with my knowledge. I understand that involvement in any of the above actions could result in prosecution or disciplinary measures up to and including termination. If terminated for any of the reasons listed above, I understand that I may delay the completion of my volunteer hours or my hours may be voided altogether.

Volunteer Responsibilities

  • Attendance: Regardless of the reason for absence or tardiness, you must notify Goodwill in advance for each day you are absent or tardy. If you are unable to call in yourself, you are responsible for having someone call in for you. It is the volunteers responsibility to set a schedule with the Team Leader.
  • Dress Code: Goodwill is a conservative agency so individuals are expected to dress in good taste and appropriately for the assigned job function. Cleanliness and proper undergarments are required at all job sites. Inappropriate clothing will not be tolerated. This includes clothing with inappropriate photos, verbiage and alcoholic beverage/drug endorsements. Closed-toed and closed-heeled shoes must be worn at all times while volunteering. Please wear clean black pants or jeans with an appropriate shirt or blouse. During warmer weather, walking style shorts may be worn if they are hemmed and come no more than two inches above the knee in length. No tank tops, tube tops, or midriff shirts are allowed. Business attire is required in administrative and customer service areas.
  • Code of Conduct: Inappropriate speech or gestures will not be tolerated. Failure to treat fellow workers and customers with respect will not be tolerated. Volunteers may not listen to an MP3 player, talk or text on a cell phone, or wear headphones during service. Volunteers are expected to follow all policies and procedures implemented by Goodwill Team Leaders and staff. All volunteers serve on a one-strike basis; there are no second chances.
  • Confidentiality: Any information concerning the business of Goodwill, its program participants, suppliers, subcontractors, dealers, employees, or personnel associated with it is confidential. No one is to divulge internal information about Goodwill to outsiders, including the media or government representatives, without approval from the Chief Executive Officer or designee. If approached by someone seeking confidential information, you must immediately consult with your supervisor.
  • Drug-Free Work Place Policy: It is Goodwill's desire to provide a drug free, healthy, and safe work place. To promote this goal, everyone is required to report to work in appropriate mental and physical condition in order to perform their jobs in a satisfactory manner. While on Goodwill's premises and while conducting business activities related to Goodwill off the Goodwill premises, you may not use, possess, distribute, sell, or be under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs.
  • Shopping Policy: Volunteers are not permitted to shop at the store that they volunteer at on the same day that they log volunteer hours. Volunteers may only shop at the store they volunteer at on their day off, or they may shop at any other Goodwill retail location at which they do not log volunteer hours.
  • Smoking Policy: All Goodwill properties are non-smoking. Smoking is prohibited inside and around the perimeter of the building. A 10 minute smoke break may be given for every four (4) consecutive hours of volunteer service completed in one day, if available. Smoke breaks are not guaranteed and must be taken off of Goodwill property on a public sidewalk or other public area.

Your own insurance must cover any personal losses that may occur while you are on Goodwill property. By signing this form you are fully aware that Goodwill is in no way liable for insurance coverage on any personal losses that may occur while volunteering at Goodwill. You may not listen to an MP3 player or wear headphones during service. It is not recommended that you bring your cell phone with you into the store. If you must bring your cell phone it is required to be on vibrate or silent mode and you may not text or talk on your phone while you are volunteering. If you need to take a call, you may request to take a break. Back packs and large bags are not allowed.

I understand my responsibilities listed above. I understand that if I do not comply with the above policies, my volunteer hours could be suspended and/or terminated.
